Teacher-Business Leader Exchange

The Oakland Schools Education Foundation’s signature outreach event, the Teacher-Business Leader Exchange program connects Oakland Schools Outstanding Teacher of the Year nominees with business professionals and executives in Southeast Michigan.

Too often the sectors of business and education are considered unique and separate, and the Teacher-Business Leader Exchange Program works to show this couldn’t be further from the truth. Today’s educators are giving children of all ages the skills needed to succeed in higher education and the workforce. Through the exchange program, business professionals gain valuable insight into the skills being taught to children by our outstanding teachers.

In February, teachers are paired up with counterparts in the business world. Over the following weeks the partners schedule exchange days where they visit each other’s workplaces, participating in the daily routines as members of the team. In April, the partners regroup at a reception where they share their experiences, reveal their misconceptions, and exchange what they learned.
